Gaming PC Build Basics: Choose Parts That Work Together
A practical starting point for planning a balanced gaming PC, checking compatibility and spending your budget where it matters.
Start with games and display
List the games you play, the monitor resolution and the frame rate you want. These choices shape graphics requirements more than a generic parts list. Competitive 1080p play and detailed 4K games place different demands on a system.
Balance the core components
Compare CPU and GPU benchmarks for your actual games. A fast graphics card paired with an entry level processor can leave performance unused in some titles; overspending on the CPU while choosing a weak GPU creates the opposite imbalance.
Check fit, power and cooling
Confirm the processor socket, memory type, case clearance and power supply connectors. Leave room for airflow and cable routing. Include the monitor and operating system in your budget. See our GPU guide and airflow guide.
