PC & Gaming Guide
Choosing a CPU for Gaming and Everyday Work
Understand core count, clock speed, platform compatibility and cooling before selecting a processor.
Understand the workload
Games, streaming and editing use processors differently. Many games benefit from strong per-core performance, while rendering can use more cores. Choose for the work you actually do.
Check the platform
The CPU must match the motherboard socket and supported chipset. Confirm BIOS support, memory generation and upgrade options. Compare total platform cost, including board and memory.
Account for cooling
Demanding processors may need a capable cooler and motherboard power delivery. Pair the CPU with a graphics card suited to your display. See our build planning guide.
