Wi-Fi or Ethernet for Online Gaming?
Compare latency, reliability and setup effort for a stable online gaming connection.
Latency is not bandwidth
Games send modest data, but benefit from consistent delivery. Ethernet is predictable and avoids wireless interference; a fast internet plan cannot fix local packet loss.
When Wi-Fi works
Modern Wi-Fi can work well near an access point. Walls, competing networks and distance affect reliability. Position the router openly and use an appropriate band.
Diagnose first
Compare wired and wireless results at different times. Check router placement and local signal before replacing gear. A cable should not be sharply bent or crushed.
